This piece is a depiction of African American Women who provided service to soldiers during the civil war. These women were available to nurse the soldiers back to health and to also teach them how to read. Very little is known about the participation of these women during the civil war.
Welcome to my page and this is my artwork... Sonya Walker was born and raised in Savannah, Ga. At a very young age, she demonstrated a keen interested in drawing. As a very quiet and shy child, she used drawing as a way of occupying her time. In high school, one of her instructors encouraged her to pursue her art education in a newly established school in town called the Savannah College of Art & Design (S.C.A.D.), which he wrote a letter of recommendation for her to attend. Sonya went on to major in Illustration. After a year of study, Sonya decided to withdraw and pursue her art interests. In 1989, Sonya became an Associate Artist with J.P.
